Despite the snowy weather, members of the Coplay Town Watch (CTW) gathered Dec. 18, 2013, to recap the year's activities and to celebrate the holiday season.

The CTW members enjoyed festive holiday cookies and other snacks while discussing the success of various fundraising efforts and other activities in 2013.

Bill Leiner Jr. said the CTW was able to generate substantial profits from fundraising efforts at Coplay Community Days and by working with the American Club of Coplay.

Leiner also said the CTW recently conducted its first Tastefully Simple fundraiser, which also proved to be a success. The group anticipates conducting a hoagie sale in January to start fundraising for the new year.

Members also discussed the Feral Cat Committee, which has led an effort to spay and neuter approximately 100 feral cats in Coplay since 2005. Their efforts have resulted in positive results in recent years.

"We're not getting any calls anymore from residents about feral cats," Leiner said. "This shows that we have been a very successful organization."

The committee reported that only one cat needed to be neutered this past year, which indicates that the feral cat population in Coplay has drastically decreased.

The Feral Cat Committee will reorganize Jan. 19.

The CTW also reported on the success of some of its other programs throughout 2013, such as the Children's Bike Derby and National Night Out Against Crime. Members of the group hope to continue and expand these programs in the future.

"We want to reach out to Whitehall and other communities to participate in next year's National Night Out Against Crime," Leiner said.

Wrapping up another successful year of providing valuable community services, the CTW intends to continue its proactive initiatives for making Coplay a safer and better community in 2014.
