John W. Kasten, 63, of Palmerton, died Dec. 26, 2013, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Karen (Korutz) Kasten for 40 years.
Born in Jim Thorpe, he was a son of Wayne Kasten of Lehigh County and of the late Rose D. (Molnar) Karsten.
He was a Whitehall High School graduate.
He earned a bachelor's degree in physics, cum laude, from Moravian College.
He was the borough manager of Bangor since 2008.
He was a manager, secretary, and treasurer for eight years each for both Slatington and Palmerton boroughs.
He was variously a director of sales, resource development and business development manager for Grand Central Sanitation. He was a project coordinator for Lehigh County Authority.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Northampton.
He was a past president of the board of directors of both the library and of the Civil Service Commission, Palmerton.
He was a member of the Bangor Business Association, Slate Belt COG and the leadership committee of the Main St. Coalition.
In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by a brother-in-law Andrew and his wife Barbara Korutz of East Allen Township; two nieces; a nephew; and a great-nephew.
