Norman R. Carty, blast furnace maintenance

Norman R. Carty, 87, died Dec. 26, 2013, at Alexandria Manor, Bethlehem. Born in Nazareth, he was a son of the late Kryl and Sadie (Cressman) Carty.

He was in the US Army during World War II.

He worked for Bethlehem Steel Corporation in the blast furnace maintenance department.

He was a member of Holy Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church.

He was a member of United Steelworkers Local 2599. He volunteered for many years at Gracedale Nursing Home, and also took his therapy dogs to visit the residents.

He is survived by two daughters, Linda and her husband John Tocket of Bethlehem Township and Patricia and her husband Christopher Chmela of Bethlehem; three grandchildren, Christopher and Anthony Tiscio and Rebecca and her husband Christopher Bennett ; and four great-granddaughters.

He was predeceased by three brothers Kryl, Earl and Donald Carty. Contributions may be made to the church, 2700 Jacksonville Road, Bethlehem, PA 18017.
