Alistair K. Macpherson, Lehigh faculty

Dr. Alistair K. Macpherson, 77, of Bethlehem, died Dec. 9, 2013, in his son's home in Claremore, Okla. Born in Sydney, Australia, he was a son of the late Catherine (MacRae) and Donald Macpherson. He was the husband of the late Margaret J. Macpherson for 43 years.

He earned a bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering, a master's degree in Engineering Science and a doctor of philosophy degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sydney. He was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Toronto.

He was an assistant professor at the University of Manitoba. He was a project engineer for De Havilland Aircraft and Qantas Airways.

He was appointed to the Lehigh Faculty in 1971 in the Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics Department.

He is survived by a two sons, David A. and his wife Karen P. of San Antonio, Texas and Peter A. of Claremore, Okla.; two daughters, Kay L. and her husband Alan R. Evans of Olympia, Wash.and Robyn A. and her husband Thomas J. Smart of Cary, N.C.; a sister, J. Mary Macpherson of Turramurra, Australia; and six grandsons, Andrew, Eric, Christopher, Colin, Ian and Kyle.

There will be a Celebration of Life service at 10 a.m. Dec. 20 at First Presbyterian Church, 2344 Center St., Bethlehem, PA 18017.
