Students learn positive traits at Weisenberg Elementary
Weisenberg Elementary recently celebrated Spirit Week.
Students and faculty enjoyed Black and Gold Day, Crazy Sock Day, Crazy Hair Day, Team Jersey Day and White Out Day.
As part of White Out Day, everyone dressed in white shirts and attended an assembly focusing on the five main expectations, Positive Traits, of the school.
These include follow directions, keep hands and feet to yourself, be respectful, be responsible and be ready.
The high school and NYAA cheerleaders performed and the Tiger mascot and the mini Tiger mascot performed with the cheerleaders.
High school seniors Alex Bobbyn, Brianna Nibbe, Brooke Novotnak, Ryan Searcy and Sami Witt spoke to the students.
Bobbyn told the students football and drama, two activities in which he participates, have helped him grow because they taught him to be prepared.
"Be prepared in class with pencils, homework and textbook," Bobbyn said. "If you try hard and make an effort everything will be pretty good in the end."
Nibbe, a cheerleader, said being ready has helped her as a cheerleader. She encouraged the students to work hard and be ready to give 110 percent.
Ask questions, Wiik told her audience.
"If you are struggling or confused in math or any other subject, ask a neighbor in class or ask your teacher," she said.
Students earn Tiger tickets throughout the school year for displaying one of the five positive behaviors they display at the school.
They were given the option of turning in one of their tickets as they entered the gym.
Names were then chosen at random to participate in the many activities occurring in the gym.
Students enjoyed dancing and singing to Anna Kendrick's "Cups," with lyrics adapted by third-grade teacher Angela Rimm, to fit the positive behavior program at the school; as well as Trivia games and more.
All were designed to enforce the positive traits program at Weisenberg.
