During a recent school board meeting, Parkland officials offered farewell thoughts to Jayne Bartlett, who completed 12 years as a member of the board, the last three years as president. She did not seek re-election in November's municipal election.
District Superintendent Richard Sniscak commented on her service.
"Jayne guided Parkland through the most difficult financial years," Sniscak said. "She stood steadfast and led by example. She was truly invaluable to me as a new superintendent."
Board member David Kennedy said Bartlett at times appeared emotional.
"It was more than emotional," Kennedy said. "This was her passion for every student in Parkland.
Board member Robert Cohen offered his thoughts.
"Jayne, I sense the strength you give us when you speak from the heart," Cohen said. "There are lessons you have taught us all."
Business Manager John Vignone recognized Bartlett's influence in budgetary matters.
"I saw your financial concerns," Vignone said. "You are a total class act."
Board member Mark Hanichak commended Bartlett's skills as leader of the team.
"Being a board president cannot be an easy job," Hanichak said. "You've done it with care, sensitivity and grace."
Bartlett offered her response.
"This board is just awesome," she said. "Thanks for the most memorable, most passionate 12 years."
Sniscak gave the closing comment.
"We're in a better place because Jayne Bartlett served this community for 12 years," the superintendent said.
