Ralph Springer Jr., 79, of New Smithville and formerly of Bethlehem, died Nov.15, 2013, at Whitehall Manor, where he was a guest for the past three years. Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Ralph and Esther (Johnson) Springer Sr. He was the husband of the late Machie (Yoshiyama) Springer for 44 years.

He was a cryptographer in the Army Signal Corps and was stationed in Korea and Japan.

He was an industrial analyst for the Industrial Engineering Department, Bethlehem Steel Corporation, for 34 years, retiring in 1986.

He was member of the U.CC. Congregation of Ziegels Union Church, Breinigsville, where he was a former church treasurer and member of the Consistory.

He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels of Lehigh County.

He is survived a daughter, Amy E. and her husband Blair Hower of Kreidersville; two grandchildren, Andrew and Kelly; a sister, Jane Driscoll of Coopersburg; and nieces and nephews and their families.

He was predeceased by a brother, Eldridge Springer; and a sister, Althea Gross.
