St Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Coplay, will host Operation Secret Santa 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24.

Lehigh Valley Moms on a Mission invite members of the public to drop off donations at the church so they may assist families in need.

They are asking for donations of nonperishable food for local food banks; unwrapped new toys, books or games; and gift cards or monetary donations.

The wish list also includes blankets and comforters, towels, sheets and pillowcases, cleaning products, backpacks, hats, lotions, shampoo and soap and other everyday items.

They ask donors not to bring stuffed animals, used clothing or household items or food items in glass jars.

The annual Thanksgiving Ecumenical Service which rotates between the three borough churches will take place 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Fifth and Coplay streets.

St. Peter's will be joined by St. John's Lutheran Church and Trinity United Church of Christ. The homily will be given by the Rev. Timothy Boyer, pastor at St. John's. The Rev. Steve Hummel, pastor at Trinity U.C.C. and Mgsr. John Martin, pastor at St.Peter's, will share in the service.

Choirs from the three churches will provide the music.

The Coplay Garden Club will provide the flowers for the service, which is open to the public. Refreshments will be served afterward in the parish hall.

A reminder to residents that the borough hall will be closed not only on Thanksgiving, but also on Black Friday, Nov. 29.

Recycling pickup will be moved up one day, to Wednesday, Nov.27.

Motorists and residents may be seeing more and more work along streets in town.

A company utilized by UGI has been digging on North Sixth Street to install a new gas line.

UGI has initiated an aggressive replacement of aging underground gas lines in the region.

Many people enjoy trains, particularly the kind that turn adults into children during the holidays.

Those aged 14 to 20 can get involved year around with Explorer Post 101, which gathers together every Thursday evening.

The group invites youth to help with its train display on the second floor of the borough hall. Anyone interested should just show up, post leaders say.
