Stephen J. Gratzel, 96, formerly of Northampton, died Oct. 13, 2013, in Schervier Pavilion Nursing Home, Warwick, N.Y. He was the husband of Ethel D. (Frumolt) Gratzel.
Born in Northampton, he was the son of the late Anthony and Anna (Ressler) Gratzel.
He was the owner and operator of Gratzel's Bakery, Teaneck, N.J., for 30 years.
He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans, Post 454 of Northampton and the VFW Post 8441 of Vernon, N.J.
He was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2586 in Teaneck, N.J., and a member of the Young at Heart Senior Group, Northampton.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Stephen J. Jr. and his wife Noreen of Warwick, N.Y., Robert J. and his wife Rene of Red Hook, N.Y., Christopher and his wife Christine of Warwick, N.Y.; daughters, Patricia J. and her husband Edward Camarillo of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Constance A. and her husband Kevin Kney of Rockford, Ill., Gail M. of Riverdale, N.J.; brother Paul and his wife Mary of Toms River, N.J., and 15 grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or Queenship of Mary Church, c/o the funeral home.
