John P. Eberhardt, 86, of Northampton, died Oct. 15, 2013, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Shirley (Strohl) Eberhardt.

Born in Northampton, he was the son of the late Paul and Cecilia (Schmalzel) Eberhardt.

He worked at Muhlenberg College for many years.

He was a member and an elder of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Northampton.

He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a former member of Northampton Borough Council serving the second ward. He was past president of the American Legion Post 353 and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4714. He was a member of the Northampton Liederkranz.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Kathy wife Daniel Marakovits of Walnutport; six grandchildren, Justin, Danny, Meredith, Amanda, Sarah and John; and a sister, Hilda Ziatyk, of Bethlehem.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Lisa Reph, and a son, John P. Eberhardt Jr.
