Grand jury to delve into home invasion case

A Lehigh County grand jury has been convened in a case of a robbery/home invasion that occurred in Whitehall Township in March.

The identities of the victims – a man and woman – have not been released and the case remains under investigation by the township's detective division. Both individuals were severely beaten, according to police.

A report by Police Chief Linda Kulp states the county grand jury is hearing evidence gathered during the investigation by township police relative to the suspects. The grand jury was impaneled by Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin.

The Whitehall police detective division is also investigating a robbery of a man in the area of Barkley Village in September. The suspect – a white male – was armed with a hand gun and fled with cash and the victim's cell phone. The victim was not injured during the robbery.

Multiple complaints of child abuse cases are also under active investigation by township police detectives.

An investigation continues involving several suspects who entered businesses and stole employee credit cards. The suspects then used the stolen credit cards at area businesses to purchase goods.

The district attorney's office dismissed a case of a rape reported by a woman in June. The charges were dropped against the woman's boyfriend because of a lack of cooperation from the victim. Charges earlier were filed against the man for attempted rape and assault.

Detectives are currently investigating 18 burglaries and six attempted burglaries. Ten of those cases involved residential break-ins. Three others involved storage areas.
