George F. Spaits, 75, of Northampton, died Oct. 7, 2013, in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, Bethlehem. He was the husband of Martha "Dympna" (Doherty) Spaits for 52 years.

Born in Hokendauqua, he was a son of the late Frank and Ethel (Beidleman) Spaits.

He was in the U.S. Navy and retired after 20 years of service.

He worked at Bell Telephone, later AT&T.

He was a member of Queenship of Mary Church.

He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 454, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4714 and the American Legion Post 353, all of Northampton. He was a member of the Northampton Borough Recreation Center.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Frank and his wife Leatha of Northampton, Michael and his wife Sharon of Navarre, Fla., and Damian and his fiancee Ayesha of Lancaster, Calif.; a daughter, Colleen and her husband Matt Szerencsits of Lewis Center, Ohio; two granddaughters, Siobhan and Ciara; a brother, James and his wife Donna Spaits of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two stepbrothers, James and his wife Linda Mills of Stiles, and Frank and his wife Kathy Mills of Coplay.
