Vincent Herman
Vincent "Vince" Herman, 81, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., formerly of Emmaus, died Oct. 14, 2013. He was the husband of Madeline Louise (Pietrobon) Herman. They were married for 58 years. Born in Allentown he was the son of the late Vincent Aloysius and Magdelen (Erschen) Herman.
He graduated from Allentown Central Catholic High School in 1950 and the University of Miami, with a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial management in 1960 and thereafter from the Academy of Advanced Traffic in Philadelphia.
He served in the United States Army in Seoul, Korea, with Army Intelligence during the Korean War.
He was employed by Pennsylvania Power & Light company for 35 years having served as its traffic manager until his retirement in 1995.
He was president of Palace Gardens Restaurant, Whitehall, and was an entrepreneur having owned multiple and various businesses throughout his life. He and his wife were members of the Cotillion Dance Club and USA Dance. He played Santa Claus for Sears in Lancaster in 1966 and continued to play Santa throughout his life for different organizations until 2007. He was a member of the Traffic Club of the Lehigh Valley, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.
He organized Spooknacht in Lancaster, managed the Miss Lancaster County Pageant, was a leader for the Boy Scouts of America and was involved in Junior Achievement and Junior League Football.
He is survived by his wife; son, Glenn and his wife Patricia (Kunkel), of Verona, N.J.; daughter, Colleen Dodson, of Allentown; daughter, Denise and her husband William Wester, of Emmaus; five grandchildren, Renee Garber, of Durham, N.C., Lauren Thompson, of Culloden, W.Va., Felicia (Dodson) Kurcharczuk and Thomas Vincent Dodson, of Allentown and Julia Wester, of Emmaus; great-grandchildren, Owen Thompson and Lucy Garber; sisters, Rita and her husband Donald Dougherty, of Allentown and Kathleen and her husband Charles Worman, of Port St. Lucie, Fla. He was predeceased by brothers, James A. and Daniel J.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1 p.m. Oct. 19 in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1040 Flexer Ave., Allentown. Calling hours will be 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Oct. 19 in the O'Donnell Funeral Home, 908 Hanover Ave., Allentown.
