Dorothy M. Benscoter

Dorothy M. Benscoter, 80, of Northampton, died Oct. 5, 2013, at her home. She was the wife of James E. Benscoter for 63 years.

Born in Kingston, she was a daughter of the late Gordon J. and Mabel J. (Montross) Steele.

She was last employed by Sears, Roebuck and Company, Whitehall, as a sales clerk for many years before retiring in 2000. Before that, she was a nurse's aid at Fellowship Manor, Whitehall, for several years. Before that, she worked in the textile industry as a machine operator and cutter at various Lehigh Valley companies. She also worked in the cafeteria at the Northampton High School for several years.

She attended Bethany Wesleyan Church, Cherryville.

She was a former den mother for Cub Scout Troop 15, Pennsville. She was a member and Past Worthy Matron for Order of the Eastern Star Rose Croix Chapter 235, Northampton, and was a volunteer for the Allen Township Volunteer Fire Company.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Arthur and his wife Karen of Walnutport, George and his wife Tina of Middletown, and Lewis and his wife Catherine of Walnutport; two sisters, Marjorie Riker and Mary Lou Clark, both of Tunkhannock; a granddaughter: Nicole; three grandsons: Erik, Jason, and Kyle; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler Moore and Sofia Mae Benscoter.

She was predeceased by son, Gordon Benscoter.

There will be a calling time from 10 a.m. to noon along with O.E.S. services, followed by a funeral service at noon, both on Oct. 11 at Bethany Wesleyan Church, 675 Blue Mt. Drive, Cherryville.

Contributions may be made to the Order of the Eastern Star, Rose Croix Chapter 235, or to Bethany Wesleyan Church Building Fund, or to Lehigh Valley Hospice, all c/o the funeral home, 2119 Washington Ave., Northampton, 18067.
