Program designed to inspire healthy habits for families

As part of a new wellness initiative for elementary students and their families, the Parkland School District has announce a partnership with Parkland Family Health Center and physicians Breanna Henry, D.O. and Nicole Sully, D.O.

The partnership will offer a series of free programs for elementary families titled "Wellementary."

The programs will educate families on how to develop healthy lifestyle habits. Each session will include health tips, instructions for making healthy food and healthy food choices and fun physical activities that can be done as a family.

Door prizes will be raffled off at each event and, each time a family attends, they will be entered to win the grand prize: a weekend family retreat at Bear Creek Mountain Resort.

The four free sessions are open to all Parkland families as follows:

·Oct. 17: Orefield Middle School cafeteria; Kick Start Your Health, smoothie station and cardio kickboxing; door prize, two $100 Wegmans gift cards

·Dec. 5: Springhouse Middle School; Family Fitness – Let's Get Physical, Healthy cooking demonstration and family Zumba fun; door prize, indoor fitness package

Jan. 15, 2014: Orefield Middle School; Healthy Bites, Make healthy snacks and yoga for the entire family; door prize, two Bounce U gift cards

April 9, 2014: Springhouse Middle School, Olympian Wisdom, Learn to grow a garden and hear from Olympic Gold Medalist Marty Nothstein; door prize: one child's bike and helmet

All programs begin with registration 6:30-7 p.m. Programs run 7-8 p.m.
