Grover H. Bays

Grover H. Bays, 90, formerly of Allentown, died Sept. 27, 2013, at Whitehall Manor. He was the husband of the late Janina G. (Galzinski) Bays.

Born in Lookout, W.V., he was a son of the late Grover Cleveland and Clara Max (Haynes) Bays.

He was a graduate of West Virginia University where he earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering.

He was a 1st lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Before retiring, he was a civil engineer for the former Lehigh Structural and the former Reimer and Fisher Engineers of Allentown.

He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the choir, a Sunday school teacher and an usher.

He is survived by two sons, James G. and his wife Deanna of Cresco and Donald R. and his wife Debra of Allentown; two brothers, Robert C. of Alma, Ark., and Sam R. of Summersville, W.V.; three grandchildren Jamie and her husband Bobby Govaeea, Kelly and her husband Ryan Stueven and Jason Bays; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Bays of Long Beach, Wash.; nieces; and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Louise C. Givens; a brother, John D.; and a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Bays.

A calling period is scheduled for 10-11 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. Oct. 4 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Road, Allentown.

Contributions may be made payable to the church or to the Alzheimer's Association, care of the funeral home, 234 Walnut St. Catasauqua, 18032.
