Russell S. Christman Jr., 86, of Northampton, died Sept. 18, 2013, at Gracedale Nursing Home, Nazareth. He was the husband of Betty I. (Getz) with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.
Born in Northampton, he was the son of the late Russell S. Sr. and Irene I. (Sacks) Christman.
He worked for the Northampton Post Office for 25 years as a clerk and 11 years as a rural carrier, retiring with 36 years of service in 1982. He then worked for the Northampton Area School District as a school bus driver and driver for the sports teams and band trips for 13 years, retiring in 1997.
He was a longtime member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Northampton, where he served on the senior choir for more than 30 years. He was a three-term 15-year church council member and served on two call committees to hire new pastors.
He was a past president of Fairview Cemetery Board, Northampton. He was also a former coach and umpire for the Northampton Athletic Association for more than 20 years and a life member of the Northampton V.F.W. Post 4714.
He served his country in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during World War II.
He is survived by his wife; son, Randall Z. and his wife Cheryl of Northampton; sister, Dolores Demko of Bath; two stepgrandchildren, Cody and Courtney Chazsar.
