Park Mart gas station plans upgrades to building, property
The convenience store and gas station known as Park Mart, along the west side of Route 309 at the Lime Kiln Road intersection, will be undergoing improvements to its building and property.
At the South Whitehall commissioners Aug. 21 meeting, the board granted approval to a proposal presented by Bruce Ebert and Pipeline Petroleum Inc.
The plan calls for removal of the kerosene pumps, relocation of the diesel pumps, and construction of a 1,064-square-foot addition to house a Subway restaurant.
Nineteen additional parking spaces will be provided.
Stormwater management facilities and the septic system will be improved on the 1.31-acre lot.
Eleven waiver requests, many necessitated by the limited space available at the site, were granted.
The waivers included sidewalks, curbing, concrete driveway apron and street shade trees.
In other matters, commissioners approved purchase of eight additional security cameras and four new access control doors for the municipal complex at a cost of $29,000.
Funds will be drawn from the unappropriated reserve account.
Cameras will cover the lobby area, cashier room and transaction window, hallways, the vault in the finance department, the west entrance, public meeting room and the stairwell leading to the police department.
Director of Administration Tony Ganguzza said access control devices will be installed in four doors not fobbed.
The board approved a resolution appointing Berkheimer Tax Administrator Inc., Bangor, as the business privilege tax auditor for the township.
Ganguzza reported Berkheimer offers services of a staff attorney at no addiitonal cost.
The legal assistance will be provided through the audit process, including attendance at hearings and acting as the township's attorney as needed in business tax matters.
The contracted price will be $100 for each audit or 5 percent of all business privilege taxes and one-half of the interest accrued.
Upon the request of the Boy Scouts of America, commissioners granted permission for South Whitehall to serve as host of a Law Enforcement Explorer Post.
Lt. John Christman said Scouts will meet once a month with township police department representatives.
Christman said he welcomes the Explorer Post as an opportunity to serve the community.
