The Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners granted approval for a minor subdivision at its Aug. 12 meeting.

The subdivision is sought by Darlene Pinto at Bridge and West Columbia streets following a recommendation by the township planning commission. The Lehigh Valley Planning Commission also approved the project.

Since there are no new building lots in the minor subdivision plan, the commissioners waved recreation and traffic fees along with street tree plantings. Several technical conditions by the township's bureau chief of planning, zoning and development have to be followed and the applicant must pay outstanding review fees.

In other business, the board approved the start of pension benefits for retired township police Lt. James R. Wagner. The pension subsidy will be determined by the township's police officer fund actuary.

A $45,910 contract was also approved by the commissioners for a three-year lease of two Ricoh copiers from Edwards Business Systems. The copier/fax/ scan machines will be used for municipal and tax office business functions.

Also during the meeting, a resolution was adopted by the commissioners for a sewage facilities plan revision for a new land development of Kirkpatrick Subdivision at Eighth Street and Hillside Avenue. The proposed connection involves a future single family detached dwelling to an existing sewer line on Hillside Avenue.

Regarding police activity, the board was informed Cpl. Bruce Somers was promoted to the rank of sergeant. He commands the administration division. Police Officer Richard Hope will return to Whitehall High School as a school resources officer.
