Thefts reported

Two employees at the Giant Food Market, Chestnut and Cherry streets, reported on Sept. 4 the theft of items from the store's employee break room.

In one instance, an employee reported her iPhone valued at $549 missing. In the second incident, an employee said four scratch-off lottery tickets were stolen.

Borough police said they are investigating the thefts.

Alarm set off

by cooking

Borough police and the fire department on Saturday responded to an alarm at 11 N. Front St.

On arrival, police were told the smoke detector was set off from someone cooking.

Fire department personnel handled the call, police said.

Stolen laptop recovered

A resident of the unit block of North Fifth Street informed borough police on Sept. 2 about the theft of an HP laptop.

The man told police the laptop was taken from his vehicle, which had been parked by his home during the morning hours, police said.

Police reported later in the day the laptop was recovered from a yard a few doors from the owner's residence.

The computer is valued at $2,000, police said.
