Boys soccer picks up two wins

Northampton's boys soccer team beat Eastburg South and Parkland in recent matches.

Against East Stroudsburg, the Kids won 3-1.

Tim Kelly finished an open net shot four minutes into the first half and the route was on as the Northampton boys won their home opener last Wednesday afternoon.

Ian Miller played the first ball to Sam Gaye, who slotted the ball to Kelly, who found paydirt early.

AJ Schroettner got the second goal off of a ball played across the box from John Yeaw. Schroettner's one-timer was no chance for keeper Ty Dykiert.

Gaye finished the scoring when he scored a header played to him off of Julian Santos' free kick near the end of the first half.

Northampton would yield one goal in the second half, but by then the game was settled. The entire team got valuable playing time to give the starters some much needed rest.

After the game coach Craig Carvin said, "It's nice to get a win, to get everyone playing time, and most importantly, everyone comes away healthy after a day like today. I was able to work on my depth chart today."

The guys picked up a huge, 4-3 victory over the Trojans.

Before the start of that game, Carvin emphasized how Parkland hasn't been pressed much in their matches thus far this season.

Five minutes into the first half, the Parkland's back line committed a turnover while passing in the back. Sam Gaye read the play like a book, intercepted the pass and after two dribbles fired a ball high that found the net and a 1-0 lead.

That was the beginning of an exciting game from start to finish, despite some questionable officiating. Many times players from both teams committed hard fouls. A foul was committed by a Kid player in the box and Bryon Deti buried the penalty shot past keeper Austin Cooper for the 1-1 tie.

But, Gaye finished another turnover in the back a few minutes later and made the score 2-1.

Parkland's Belal Mohamed scored just moments later to make it 2-2 at the half.

Parkland jumped on the Kids early in the second half as Mohamed fed Deti for Deti's second goal. Not ready to call it a day, Schroettner finished a ball fed to him by John Yeaw and tied it 3-3.

Gaye would score the game winner of a set piece played to him by Julian Santos.

"It was an exciting game to say the least," said Carvin afterward. "But there is a point where the aggressive play becomes less smart, and the threat of injuries becomes very high. I'm glad we were able to sharpen our focus for the second half and get back to what we do best, and that's play soccer."

JV

The JV soccer team managed two wins last week. They defeated East Stroudsburg South 2-0, behind goals by Caleb Wuchter and Zach Fisher.

The team also accomplished a big win over Parkland 1-0 Saturday afternoon. Luke Minnich scored the only goal of the game. He intercepted a play from the Parkland backs and his high shot found the back of the net.

Coach Jason Melniszyn has been proud of the progress his team is making.

"In the span of a week we managed to go from the bottom to the top," he said. "They've managed to elevate their game and steadily improve to the point where they can compete with any team in the league. I'm looking forward to see continued success."
