Whitehall Township resident John Hall wants his neighbors' loud parties to stop.

Hall asked township police officer Paul Davis during the Aug. 26 crime watch meeting what legal remedies are available to him.

Hall said he has called township police twice and nothing has been done to date about the parties held on his neighbors' patio during the week and on the weekend.

"I'm so frustrated because I can't do anything," he said.

Davis advised Hall to continue to call township police. Once the neighbor is cited, Hall will have to testify before a judge, Davis said.

"When it comes to a noise complaint, some people don't want to make the appearance because of animosity," Davis said. "When someone doesn't appear at the hearing, the complaint is dismissed."

Davis said other neighbors bothered by the parties should contact township police to issue a complaint. Davis also suggested Hall research whether the neighbor has a permit for the patio. Without a permit, the neighbor will be required to remove the patio, Davis said.

Also during the meeting, Davis said, six individuals were arrested for burglaries in July and August.

Three of the individuals are under further investigation. The other three are juveniles.

"It seems like when we catch one, two more pop up," Davis said.

Davis advised township residents to keep the doors of their homes closed and locked.

"Right now we're getting a lot of crimes of opportunity" he said.

Davis also recommended citizens call the nonemergency number if they see something suspicious taking place. In the event a more serious crime is taking place, Davis instructed citizens to call the emergency number.

"If you see something happening, while it's happening, give us a call," he said.

During the month of July, Davis said, 109 thefts were committed. A number of the thefts were the result of individuals leaving personal items in their vehicles.

"Remember to remove all valuables," he told those in the audience. "Take computers, jewelry and money out of the car."

Also at the meeting, resident requested a speed limit sign be posted between Caroline and Maryland Circle.

Davis said even if a sign is erected, it is difficult for police officers to be at all places at once. Currently the township has a staff of 50 officers.

"There are certain things officers can do," Davis said.

Also during the meeting, Davis said Whitehall Township resident and Allentown Police Department police vice officer Patrick Thomas has returned home from a recent deployment oversees.
