John J. Sweeny Sr., 70, of Emmaus, died Aug. 31, 2013, in Lehigh Valley Hospital. He was the husband of the late of GeorJean E. (Heft) Sweeney.

Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Clarence and Elizabeth Sweeney.

He worked as a bookkeeper and accountant for the former Allentown State Hospital for 20 years, retiring in 2006.

He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, Emmaus.

He is survived by a son, John J. Jr. of Emmaus; a daughter, Janis J. of Emmaus; a brother, Thomas of Lansdale; a sister, Elizabeth Long of Lansdale; and two granddaughters, Haley and Noel.

Funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family.
