Four Emmaus youth teams win opening games

The East Penn Emmaus Hornets football team kicked off the youth foootball season on Sunday, Sept. 1 against the East Side Youth Center Huskies with an impressive four wins and one tie.

Flags

The Hornets Flag team won 21-14. Eliel Torres and Jonathan Serrano ran for touchdowns of 60 yards and one yard, respectively. Serrano also scored on a 50 yard kickoff return. The Hornet defense held strong in the final two minutes with key plays from Joseph Glover and Michael Chies.

Junior Pee Wee

The Junior Pee Wee team had a long, hard fight in Sunday's humid temperature. The game ended in a 0-0 tie. The Hornets had a strong team defensive effort with excellent tackling led by Zemont Quaye (eight tackles) and Dylan Darville (six tackles).

Pee Wee

The Emmaus Pee Wee team started off its season with a 14-0 victory over ESYC. Tyson Karrat scored a 30-yard touchdown on a fourth-down play to give the Hornets a first-half lead. The Hornets kept the offense rolling in the second half with Aidan Kirby's lead blocking paving the way for Jared Groller's score from four yards out.

Junior Varsity

The youth junior varsity team defeated the Little Huskies 12-0 to start the season. The defense made some key plays, including a superb down-field tackle by John Ferris that prevented a score and Gannon Defrain recovering two fumbles and an interception. Offensively, Kordell Waiters ran for 164 yards and two scores.

140 Pound

The 140-pound varsity Hornets opened up it season with a convincing 22-0 win over the East Side Huskies. Hornet quarterback Cameron Brooks scored on a 40-yard quarterback bootleg in the opening quarter and on a quarterback sneak early in the third quarter. Isiah Serrano also added a touchdown on a long run. Fullback Nick Rosselli pounded defenders, setting up a successful day for the offense. The Emmaus offensive line played strong all the way across the line. The defense, led by great tackling in the middle of the line by Ian Kaufman, Ryan Thomas and Lance Hoch. Nick Rosselli and Liam Toomey played well on the outside and Corbin Carraghan and Jackson had strong games making several tackles. Trevor Calse had an interception.
