Pennridge to host Hornets in opener

Friday night the Pennridge football team will be stepping on to the football field in Perkasie.
Both of those events have happened often in the last few years when Randy Cuthbert was the Rams' head coach. It will be a bit different this Friday as Cuthbert will be taking the field as head coach of the Emmaus football.
"It is going to be unusual for sure," said Cuthbert. "I left for personal reasons. It had nothing to do with them. It is weird because I know those guys so well and have for so long.
"We had such a great year last year and now it is on to different things. It is going to be strange being there and it is going to be strange all the way up to the game, but once its game time, all of that will go away."
After Cuthbert's arrival at Emmaus, both he and Pennridge's new coach, Jeff Hollenbach, wanted to cancel it, but Pennridge athletic director Dave Baab wouldn't allow it. That leaves quite a situation down in Perkasie for Cuthbert to enter.
He will be entering with his team's revamped offense, led by senior Brad Foltz.
"I'm looking for Brad to get more comfortable with the offense and not make mental errors," said Cuthbert. "He is very athletic and we are going to take advantage of that. We hope he limits the turnovers and doesn't put us in a bad spot."
Cuthbert said that senior Tom Bisko, senior Kyzir White and junior Wyl Miller will be getting looks often throughout the game. He stated that they would like to spread the ball around as well.
As for Pennridge, they run a 3-4 defensive scheme and blitz very often. They also like to take a lot of risks with coverage and Cuthbert is hoping to exploit that with his goal being big plays that can lead to scores.
Offensively, the Rams have three key players at the three skill positions. Cuthbert said he and his staff are watching out for wide receiver Mike Stutznan, running back Mike Class and quarterback Matt Pasquale.
The newest Green Hornet wants his team to climb to prominence in the LVC and knows that a fast start this season will do wonders in the effort to achieving that goal.
"It is a chance to get some attention for Emmaus," he said. "We are playing a team that is ranked and we won't be. If you want respect, this is an opportunity. No game makes or breaks a season, but this is a great chance to gain respect and show people that we are for real."
It is not often that this District 1-District 11 match up occurs and it has extra storylines to go with it. The atmosphere in Perkasie surrounding the 7 p.m. kickoff will be electric and the crowd will cheering and jeering from the minute Emmaus steps off the bus.
