Saucon Valley School District School Board member Lanita Lum has resigned from the school board effective July 25.
Lum announced her resignation near the conclusion of the July 23 board meeting. The board has 30 days to appointment a replacement to fill the vacant seat.
"I will be pursuing other interests at this time," Lum read from a statement.
Lum previously decided she would not seek re-election in the next election.
School board member Charles Bartolet said he regretfully accepted Lum's resignation. He praised Lum for her service on the school board. Board member Sandra Miller voted in opposition to Lum's resignation.
This is the second resignation this summer the board has had to cope with. Former board member Sharon Stack submitted her resignation June 11. Stack resigned from the board to relocate to Texas due to her husband's job.
The board later appointed Mark Sivak to fill Stack's vacant seat, which expires January 2014. Sivak serves as the Bethlehem director of budget and finance.
Those interested in Lum's open seat should submit letters of interest to the Saucon Valley School Board by Aug. 16. The board expects to reschedule its Aug. 27 meeting to Aug. 20 at which time it will vote on appointing a replacement.
