Clifford C. Smith
Clifford C. Smith, 95, of Slatington, died July 23, 2013, in his home.
He and his wife Elaine S. (Kern) Smith recently celebrated 71 years of marriage.
Born July 17, 1918, in Slatedale, he was a son of the late John and Edith (Hartline) Smith.
He was employed by C.W. Good Road Construction and by the former Trojan Powder Company, South Whitehall Township, for more than 30 years in the explosive and chemical departments until retiring in 1981.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he received an honorable discharge.
He was a former treasurer, sexton and consistory member of Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, Slatington, and was the longest surviving member of the Lehigh Furnace Sunday School, where he formerly served as sexton and treasurer.
He was a life member of Citizens Fire Co. No. 1 Inc., Slatedale.
He enjoyed gardening, farming, raising plants, flowers, camping and the outdoors.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a grandson Jason Smith and wife, Jessica of Danielsville; great-grandson Cyrus Smith; brothers Willis Smith and Norwood Hartline, both of Walnutport; sisters Arlene Holderman of Northampton, Elsie Dreher of Lehighton, Hilda Easterday and Pauline Bowman, both of Walnutport; nieces and nephews, cousins.
He was predeceased by a son, Leslie Smith in 1976, and sisters, Rachel Horwith and Grace Burkhardt.
