William Robert Fetterman
William Robert Fetterman, 71, of Winslow, Maine, died unexpectedly July 16, 2013, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. He was the husband of Sharon J. (Eckroade) Fetterman. They were married for 44 years. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Rose M. (Miller) and the late Jay V. Fetterman.
He was a graduate of Emmaus High School and Shippensburg University.
He served his country in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard for six years.
He was an original member and past president and chairman of the Emmaus Jaycees.
He was a certified purchasing manager as recognized by the National Association of Purchasing Management. He was also a graduate of the University of Maine Pulp and Paper Summer Institute. As a CPM, he spent 26 years working at Boise Cascade in Allentown, Rumford, Maine; and Richland, Wash. He ended his career by working more than 10 years at Sappi Fine Paper, retiring in Winslow, Maine in 2009.
He had a passion for reading, crossword puzzles, history and politics and swimming several times a week at the Waterville YMCA.
He could often be found enjoying a meal with friends at Big G's in Winslow and at the Brass Rail in Allentown.
He enjoyed quality time fishing and camping in Promised Land State Park. He served as president and treasurer of Richland National Little League for multiple years. He was a coach and assistant coach on many levels, from T-Ball in Rumford, to Little League in Richland.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Jay C. and his wife Melonie of Landenberg, Benjamin W. and his wife Lauren of Westport, Conn.; three grandchildren, Emma, Grace and Matthew of Landenberg; three sisters, Joanne and her husband Nate Hallett of Plano, Texas, Judith Williamson of Allentown, and Jayne and her husband Michael Holubowsky, of Whitehall.
Contributions may be made in his name to the YMCA Alfond Youth Center, 216 North St., Waterville, Maine. The funds will be directed to the active older adult program.
Funeral services were held at the First Congregational Church of Waterville. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Aug. 3. at Greenwood Cemetery, Allentown. Arrangements were made by the Veilleux Funeral Home, Waterville, Maine, 04901.
