LVHM exhibit salutes Henry Ford

A week-long exhibit about Henry Ford, who was born 150 years ago, will be held at the Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum, 432 W. Walnut St., Allentown.

The exhibit opens with a slideshow, 1 p.m. July 27, by Guest Curators Ron and Dennis Smith about the development of the Model T Ford, the assembly-line, and the mass production of automobiles in the United States.

The exhibit includes four collector-quality Model Ts, two of which have won national awards from the Antique Automobile Club of America: 1914 Model T Touring Car, "National First Place Winner"; 1915 Model T Touring Car; 1919 Coupe two door single seat Model T; and 1922 Touring Car four passenger, "National First Place Winner."

The exhibit includes a traveling car museum featuring a history of the Ford Motor Company. The exhibit was developed by Ron Smith of Hellertown.

"This is a great way to relive a slice of the past," said said Joseph Garrera, LVHM executive director. "Henry Ford and the Ford Motor Company transformed the automobile into an innovation that profoundly shaped the 20th century and continues to affect our lives today."

On display will be Ford memorabilia, blueprints for a Model T and a Model T engine with cylinders exposed.

There will be a "Scavenger Hunt for Children" searching for authentic Model T hubcaps.
