An exhibition by Rigo Peralta continues through July 31, Civic Theater Of Allentown, Theatre514, 514 N. 19th St., Allentown.

Peralta, born in the Dominican Republic, is a surrealist artist. whose work is rich with symbolic imagery and majesty and often depicts the contradictory aspects of human nature.

Through his art, Peralta tries to reconcile primal or magical nature within the confines of modernization and technology.

Peralta has exhibited in New York, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Europe. He received an Allentown Arts Commission Arts Ovation award in 2010.

Peralta studied at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Santiago, Dominican Republic. He emigrated to New York City in 1989 and studied at the Art Students League of New York. From 2002 - '03, he was art director of Casa de la Cultura Dominicana.

Civic Theatre of Allentown recently renovated the lobby of Theatre514 to host ongoing artist exhibitions. An art hanging system and upgraded lighting was installed.

Civic, partnering with Blink Optical Boutique, The West End Alliance and the Allentown Arts Commission, will exhibit works of local artists throughout the year. Civic also hosts the elementary school art show for the Allentown School District.
