Whitehall Twp. man arrested on drug charges

The Whitehall Township Police Department assisted the Allentown Police Department with charging a Whitehall Township man with various drug offenses.

Carlos W. Cruz, 40, of 5108 Saylor Park Drive, Apt. 10, was charged July 12 with felony counts of possession with intent to deliver heroin and marijuana and misdemeanor charges of possession of controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia. The investigation resulted in authorities seizing heroin with a street value of more than $25,000, plus $4,000 in cash, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to a news release from the Lehigh County District Attorney's office.

Chief Det. Joseph P. Stauffer of the Lehigh County District Attorney's Drug Task Force said the arrest was the result of a two-month investigation that is continuing.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by the Drug Task Force, at 7:24 a.m. July 12, a search warrant was executed at Cruz's residence.

Detectives seized 90 grams of loose heroin, 100 bags of packaged heroin, five ounces of marijuana, scales, hundreds of empty heroin bags and other packaging materials and $4,000 in cash, according to the affidavit.
