Carol A. Kiefer

Carol A. Kiefer, 61, of Emmaus, formerly of Blue Bell, and Los Gatos, Calif., died June 23, 2013, in her home. Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of Virginia L. (Olberding) Kiefer and the late Stephen H. Kiefer.

She graduated from Parkland High School and received a bachelor of science degree in computer science from Penn State University.

She was a software engineer and loved her work in various aspects of the computer field over a 27-year career with Digital Equipment Corporation, Touch Communications, Oracle Corporation and Giavaneers. She felt a great affinity for the Silicon Valley.

Among her special joys was sailing on San Francisco Bay, planning and building her beautiful flower gardens at her home in the Santa Cruz Mountains and going for long runs with her Golden Retriever dogs. Although she lived in the Lehigh Valley area for the past seven years, she always considered herself a "California Girl."

She is survived by her mother; brother, John A. and his wife, Patti (Black), of Freeville, N.Y.; sister, Holly E. and her husband Donald Scofield, of Columbia, S.C.; niece, Allison, of the Washington, D.C. area; aunts; cousins; many friends.

Contributions may be made to the Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue, 60 Vera Cruz Road, Reinholds, 17569 or animal shelter of donor's choice.

Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements were made by the Stephens Funeral Home Inc., Allentown.
