Richard J. Shaak
Richard "Dick" J. Shaak, 85, of Myerstown, formerly of Emmaus, died July 1, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon. He was the husband of Doris V. (Berky) Shaak, to whom he was married for 65 years on June 19. Born in Jackson Township, he was the son of the late John E. and Myrtle B. (Wolfe) Shaak.
A 1946 graduate of Myerstown High School, a 1951 graduate of East Stroudsburg University, and a 1959 graduate of Lehigh University, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of Myerstown UCC, a lifetime member of the Myerstown Lions Club and the Myerstown VFW.
He was employed as a teacher in the East Penn School District for 25 years, retiring in 1975. He also worked as a coach and assistant principal at Emmaus High School. Following his retirement he worked as a nursing home administrator in the Lehigh Valley, retiring from Mosser Nursing Home, Trexlertown in 1995. He will be remembered by many in the Lehigh Valley for his involvement with the Emmaus Lions Club, St. John's UCC of Emmaus and other local services.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Susan L. and her husband Glenn Crossley, of Redmond, Wash., son, Richard J. Jr. and his wife Linda of Whitehall; grandchildren, Peter and his wife, Keri Crossley, Sara Crossley, Kyle and Katie; great-grandchildren, Jack and Thomas Crossley; sister, Jean Noll of Newark, Ohio; brother, Frederick and his wife Sally Ann of Myerstown; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Kaufman.
