Paw Prints on the Canal organizers told Northampton Borough Council June 2 its program this year was a success.

Council was told the event raised a record $5,015 for the borough's K-9 program.

During the event, groups also held a rescue parade that was very successful, resulting in seven puppies getting adopted.

Organizers Candi Lynn and Julie and Tom Glick said the event, now in its fifth year, grows each year.

The Northampton Fire Department was credited with keeping the dogs cool by filling several baby pools with water. The fire police also assisted with parking and directing traffic.

Terry Stanglein and his veterinary staff held a clinic at which rabies shots and microchips were given to a large number of dogs.

The band shelter was the site for dog training demonstrations. Officer John Mullner and Zoro gaved a demonstration and a sharp dressed pet contest and pet talent contest took place.

Camry, companion of Dana Kiefer, took first place in the sharp dressed contest; Harley, companion of Michele Fuss, came in second; and Penelope, companion of Ashley Mummert, was third.

Hoyt, companion of Kristina Ford, was awarded first place in the talent contest; Georgie, companion of Deb Radanovic, took home second place; and Rhino, companion of Tiffany Szankovics, landed in third place.

The organization is already preparing plans for the 2014 event.
