Willis R. Brinker
Willis R. Brinker, 93, formerly of Vera Cruz, died June 18, 2013. He was the husband of the late Arlene (Schaffer) Brinker who died in 1989. Born in Center Valley, he was the son of Benjamin and Estella (Fogel) Brinker.
He lived in Center Valley until moving to Vera Cruz in 1957. In 2010 he moved to Phoebe-Miller Personal Care Community in Allentown.
He served in the U.S. Army, Company 1, 18th Infantry, 1st Division, during World War II. He was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Purple Heart, European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, the World War II Victory Medal and the American Theater Service Medal.
He was employed by the LeBoutillier Orchards, Coopersburg; Rodale, Emmaus; and the U.S. Postal Service in Emmaus for 25 years.
He was a member of St. Paul's Blue Church, Coopersburg, his entire life. He served on the St. James Cemetery Board at Blue Church for many years, of which he was president from 1987 until 2007.
He was a member of the Grundsow Lodge #13 in Emmaus, where he served as a Raadsman and Chaplain. He was also a life member of the Grundsow Lodge #14 in Coopersburg.
He was a life member of the Citizens Fire Co. of Upper Milford Township in Vera Cruz, where he served as trustee, president and chaplain of the company. In Vera Cruz, he was a lifetime member of the Mystic Chain Park and Hall Association.
He is survived by nieces, Ruth Kinsey of Lansdale and Esther Keys of Mays Landing, N.J.; brother-in-law, Richard Schaffer of Coopersburg; sister-in-law, LeMae Charron of Emmaus. He was predeceased by brothers, Arthur, Harold and Wallace.
