Tri-Boro treasurer charged

The treasurer of a youth soccer club in Whitehall Township has been charged with stealing more than $100,000 from the club over more than six years.

Brian Farley, 54, of 4648 Lehigh Drive, Lehigh Township, has been charged with one count each of theft and receiveing stolen property, both third-degree felonies, says a news release from the Lehigh County District Attorney's office.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Whitehall Township police:

In March, the president of the Tri-Boro Youth Soccer Club in the township filed a theft report with police.

The club president, Tino Babayan, said Farley was the treasurer of the club and the only person with access to club bank accounts.

Farley had been the treasurer since 2006.

At a February club meeting, Farley reported the club bank accounts contained more than $30,000 and he had paid for club uniforms.

After the meeting, Babayan discovered that Farley had not paid for the uniforms and that the accounts contained less then $5,000.

A review of records over the relevant time period determined most of the money the club had collected was missing.
