Coplay police

Alarm set off

Coplay Police June 16 assisted the Whitehall Police Department at a residence in the 3700 block of 3600 Lehigh Street in responding ton alarm.

Officers arrived to find the basement window open, police said.

The house was checked by police and a short time later the owners arrived, police said.

Odor reported

An odor of natural gas brought borough police on Friday to 55 S. Second St.

Coplay Fire Department personnel arrived on the scene and determined the odor originated from an upstairs apartment, police said.

The odor was due to cleaning products and a wax stripper in the apartment, police said.

Sign struck

Police responded June 13 to Chestnut and Cherry streets for a report that a green vehicle struck a stop sign.

The vehicle later left the scene east on Chestnut Street.

At the accident scene, police found a vehicle bumper on the road in the 100 block of South Second Street. The police report stated the officer located the stop sign that was knocked over.

A witness gave police the registration number of the vehicle, which left the scene traveling east on Chestnut Street.

Police said the registration was traced back to an apartment in the 3400 block of North Front Street, Whitehall.

The investigation determined the vehicle had been driven by Alexis Werley, 20, of the Lehigh Street address. She told an officer she left the scene because she was frightened, police said.

Werley was cited with leaving the scene of an accident and careless driving.

Coplay police along with officers from several surrounding municipalities were summoned to assist North Catasauqua police with a fight in progress June 2, at 8 p.m. at the North Catasauqua Park.

Numerous people involved in the melee, police said.
