Dr. Lyall F. Barnhardt, 87, of Lower Macungie Township, died in his residence surrounded by his loving family June 7, 2013. He was the husband of Betty J. (Snyder) Black Barnhardt. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Sept. 2012. He was also the husband of the late Marilyn (Smith) Barnhardt. Born in Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada, he was a son of the late Ira D. and V. Mae (Snider) Barnhardt.
He was a research engineer for Bethlehem Steel form 1965-1988. He graduated from Queens University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada in 1947. In 1965 he received a Ph.D. in both Metallurgy and Philosophy from MIT.
He worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block from 1993-2007.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Allentown.
He is survived by his wife; Wilson Black and his wife Sara Jane of Allentown and their son Geoffrey Black of Bethlehem, Janice and her husband Florian Geider of Whitehall, Gail and her husband Greg Gillespie of North Bay, Ontario, Canada, Marlene Creech of Stratford, Ontario, Canada; numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at First Presbyterian Church, 3231 W. Tilghman St., Allentown, 18104. Call 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the church. Arrangements were made by the Stephens Funeral Home Inc., Allentown.
