Kelly Rosario, presently serving as director of professional development in the Allentown School District, has been selected as the Parkland School District's director of curriculum, instruction and professional development.
She will replace L. Randy Claroni, who will retire at the end of the school term.
Her annual salary will be $112,000.
Rosario has worked 21 years in the Allentown district. She taught second and third grades for nine years, then spent five years as an elementary math specialist.
She served four years as the elementary math curriculum coordinator, then two years as director of science, technology, English and math for kindergarten through 12th grade.
In her present position, Rosario coordinates professional development for kindergarten through 12th grade teachers and the new teacher induction program.
Rosario received a Bachelor of Science degree in early childhood and elementary education from Bloomsburg University and a Master's degree in educational leadership with kindergarten through 12th grade principal certification from Wilkes University.
At Parkland, Rosario will be working with Secondary Curriculum Supervisor Jason Henry, Elementary Curriculum Supervisor Diane Neikam and Coordinator of Data, Assessment, and Federal Programs Marjorie Evans.
District Superintendent Richard Sniscak introduced Rosario to the board at the April 23 meeting and offered comments on her selection.
"We congratulate Kelly on this appointment where we know her student-centered approach and collaborative style will be a wonderful asset to our administrative leadership team," Sniscak said.
