LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Girls blank PHS

Senior night provided the "extra adrenaline we needed" and the Konkrete Kids rode the arm of Marly Laubach to the Lehigh Valley Conference's North Division title and the No. 1 seed in the LVC playoffs.

Coach Sally Whittaker-Kahan's team bounced back from their first loss to trounce Parkland 7-0 Tuesday night as Laubach threw her third no hitter of the season.

Laubach, one of six seniors on the Kids' squad, struck out 13 and walked two as Northampton clinched the LVC North title, and only Thursday's game at Nazareth before the league playoffs open Monday.

"She's amazing," said Whittaker- Kahan. "She's a horse and we rode all the way," the coach added speaking of Laubach.

"Senior night gave us extra adrenaline," Whittaker-Kahan said. "But we really didn't need the extra push. I knew we'd bounce back after our loss (1-0 to Whitehall last Thursday)."

The Konkrete Kids, who beat Parkland 8-0 earlier, took advantage of seven Trojan errors as they won for the 18th time in 19 games.

Northampton scored five times in the fourth after Laubach and Parkland's Morgan Rentzheimer swapped strikeouts in the first three innings.

Brianna Dalton singled to start the fourth, but was out at second on Megan Tiwold's fielder's choice grounder. Then things fell apart for Parkland as Laubach and Erin Tiwold got on base on errors with one run scoring. After Hannah Peters walked, Lauren Brosky had an RBI single. Two runs scored on an error on Leandra Sterner's grounder that was bobbled and Taylor Kerbacher singled in the final run before a fly out double play ended the inning.

The Kids again took advantage of three Parkland errors in the sixth for two more runs with Tori Gollie singling in the final run.

Northampton assured itself of the No. 1 LVC seed as Freedom upset Bethlehem Catholic and the Patriot's win eliminated Parkland, leaving Freedom and Emmaus in LVC playoffs.

And, as an after thought, Northampton was announced as the Lehigh Valley Umpires Association's winner of the Sportsmanship Award.

"I'm proud of that for the girls. They showed respect for themselves, their opponents, and umpires throughout the season," Whittaker-Kahan said.
