Dominick J. Merlino

Dominick J. Merlino, 90, of Nazareth, died April 30, 2013, at Hospice House of the VNA of St. Luke's, Bethlehem. He was the husband of Caroline T. (Zizza) for 64 years.

Born in Hudson, he was a son of the late Sabato and Viola (Mirro) Merlino.

He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He worked in production for Kraft Foods, Fogelsville, for 15 years before retiring in 1990. Before that, he was a corporal in the Pennsylvania State Police, Bethlehem barracks, for 25 years.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bath.

He was a member of the F.O.P. 40, Bethlehem, and of the Retired State Police Association of Pennsylvania. He was a fourth-degree knight with the Knights of Columbus Council 528, Allentown, and a third-degree knight with Bethlehem Lodge, Council 4754. He was a member of American Legion, Brown & Lynch Post 9, Palmer Township.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Bruce and his wife Julie, and Tony J., all of Fogelsville; a daughter, Kathleen and her husband Ward Dean of Bethlehem; a son, Gary and his wife Tammy of Louisburg, N.C.; two sisters, Louise Materazzi of Etters and Rose Rubino of Laflin; a sister-in-law, Grace Merlino of Hudson; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Lello and Eleanor Costello; and two brothers, Frank and John.
