The Coplay Recreation and Welfare Association's community food bank will receive a major boost in inventory.

The National Association of Mail Carriers will hold its annual Stamp Out Hunger campaign.

Residents recently received a brown shopping bag which they are asked to fill. The mail carriers will pick up the bags when they make their rounds of homes on Saturday. Assisting the carriers are volunteers from Coplay Recreation & Welfare. AARP is also involved.

The Coplay American Legion Post 426 will hold a bingo and dinner social Saturday at its hall on South Second Street. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. and bingo gets under way at 4:30 p.m.

The dinner menu will include an open face roast pork sandwich, vegetable and salad. Seating is limited to 90 people. The event includes a tricky tray, popular with the bingo buffs.

Coplay Saengerbund has begun its spring-summer Friday evening dances at the outdoor pavilion.

On the bandstand Friday will be Toga Party, known to draw a large crowd. The gates open to members at 5 p.m. and the dances conclude at 10 p.m.

The club is a major supporter of civic organizations in town.

The annual tire drop-off event is set for Saturday, May 11.

Residents can discard their old tires for free at the borough parkway, lower parking lot, from 8 a.m. to noon. The limit is six tires.

Tires from cars, pickup trucks and vans will be accepted. Tires from large trucks, bicycles, motorcycles and ATVs will not.

The tires are loaded on a large trailer which then travels to Lafarge Cement Company in Cementon.

Labeled Watch Walks, folks from the Coplay Town Watch will be strolling through town picking up litter from the streets and gutters across the community.

The first such program will take place on Saturday and the next event is scheduled for May 25.

Open to anyone, those joining the effort are to meet Saturday, 9 a.m., at Samuel Owens Restaurant, Second and Chestnut streets.
