Volunteers fanned out across the Borough of Bath last Saturday like troops fighting on the front lines to preserve and protect the environment.
Bath held its fourth annual Earth Day cleanup April 20. The event, started and led by borough Councilwoman Jennifer George, is indicative of one of the visions of the Bath Business and Community Partnership.
"One of our visions for Bath is 'Safe, Clean, and Green,' so we undertook this annual project to fulfill that goal," George said.
This year approximately 35 individuals volunteered for the cleanup effort, which targeted the borough's main streets and four public parks: Keystone, Ciff Cowling, Carl Rehrig and Fireman's park. Volunteers included community members, students and Scouting groups.
Motorists and pedestrians could easily spot the cadre of volunteers cleaning the sidewalks and beautifying the borough's parks.
"We pick up litter, plant flowers and mulch," said George. "This was our biggest turn out to date."
George added Cub Scout Pack 33, Boy Scout Troop 35 and Girl Scout Troop 8219 also participated in the Earth Day cleanup. She thanked the three organizations for their efforts in helping to spruce up the borough.
The borough also holds two other cleanup days in Bath which are held by the Bath Lions Club. The club picks up litter along Route 512.
