N. Catasauqua Column

Anyone interested in helping to organize the North Catasauqua/Catasauqua Fourth of July celebration for 2014 is invited to attend a meeting on Wednesday, May 8. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Catasauqua American Legion, 330 Second St., Catasauqua.

"J4" is an observance held whenever July 4 falls on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. The location of the event alternates between North Catasauqua and Catasauqua, but participation on the planning committee is open to residents of both boroughs regardless of the location. The 2014 event will be in North Catasauqua.

St. Andrew's Young at Hearts will be going to Mohegan Sun on Friday, April 26. Call Bill Molchany at 610-264-0920 to reserve a seat on the bus.

Molchany is also organizing a May 15 trip to Rainbow Dinner Show to see "Fun Between the Covers."

The next monthly meeting is May 22 at 1 p.m. at St. Andrews Church 3rd and Eugene streets. Visitors interested in membership are welcome.

The Catasauqua Garden Club meets 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, at the Slovak Center Social Club, 1233 Fifth St. Donna Baylor will help the group understand flower arranging with another presentation. Garden friendly visitors are welcome to attend. Items for judging must be in place by 12:45 p.m.

Also, don't forget the club's annual plant sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at the Catasauqua Public Library, Third and Bridge streets. Arrive early for the best selection.

Registrations are still being accepted for the Suburban North YMCA's 19th Annual Russell Miller/Danny Danko Memorial Golf Outing, May 4 at Willowbrook. The cost of a ticket includes breakfast, beverages, fruit, lunch, dinner buffet, giveaways and prizes. Proceeds benefit the YMCA's youth scholarship fund.

New this year is the 1st Annual Million Dollar Town 5K and Scenic Walk. Walk along a course of gentle rolling hills through the Catasauqua community on Saturday, June 15. Online registration is available at www.snfymca.org or call the Y at 610-264-5221. T-shirts will be given to all paid registrations received on June 2. Check-in time is at 7:30 a.m. and the event will start at 9 a.m.
