The Borough of Northampton is currently preparing its municipal swimming pool for the summer.
No water leaks have been found inside the pool, although leaks proved to be a problem in the past. This year borough staff will concentrate their efforts on areas specifically used by girls and women.
"A crew of the public works department is working on the ladies rest room at the swimming pool. They also repaired a broken light panel in the ceiling. We're hoping to repaint the ladies changing area and rest rooms," Borough Manager Gene Zarayko informed borough council at a recent meeting.
The borough shortly will announce that student, adult and family season swim passes will be available.
In conjunction with preseason pool activity, the administration is working on putting together the summer pool staff, which consists of lifeguards, a pool manager, concession workers and personnel to man the entrances. Lifeguards hired will be certified by the Red Cross in life saving instructions and drills.
The popular Dip-N-Dance program with a deejay is expected to be part of the summer program.
Zarayko reported the longtime mural found on a block wall may be given a makeover. A Girl Scout has expressed interest in painting a mural, and it was thought the pool complex might be the ideal location.

In other business, Councilman Keith Piescienski, public works and sewer committee chairman, stated the Northampton Area Chamber of Commerce and the Northampton Exchange Club have purchased signs mounted on the bottom of the "Welcome to Northampton" signs.
Council was told the two organizations also purchased the new "Welcome to Northampton" signs.
