Edward R. Shaffer, 82, died March 14, 2013, at Old Orchard Health Care Center, Bethlehem Township. Born in Butztown, he was a son of the late Edwin and Lillian (Schissler) Shaffer. He was the husband of Elsie (Strauch) Shaffer for 60 years.

He was in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a supervisor for Bethlehem Steel Corporation, retiring after 34 years.

He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, where he was a council chairman for many years.

He was a member of the American Legion.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sisters, Bertha Grube, Betty Kiefer, Nancy Onusko, Mildred Laudenslager and Virginia Balliet; and three brothers, Clayton, Roy and Wilmer Shaffer.

He was predeceased by a brother, Stanley Shaffer.
