Harriett E. Bitterman, 86, of Wescosville, died Jan. 18, 2013, in Above and Beyond Assisted Living, Allentown. She was the wife of the late Richard J. Bitterman.

Born in Detroit Mich., she was a daughter of the late Frank and Mildred (Mohrdiek) Ewing.

She earned a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Michigan.

She was a special education teacher in the Bethlehem Area School District from 1980 until 1992. Befor that, she taught in the Syracuse, N.Y., area for 25 years.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Allentown.

She is survived by a son, James R. and his wife Paula of Northampton; a daughter, Mildred A. and her husband Roger Hill of Grand Rapids, Mich. and their children Eric and Katherine and her husband Charles Baker; a daughter, Carol A. and her husband Michael Moore of Charlotte, N.C. and their children Andrew and Elizabeth Moore.
