The Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners have no plans to increase their annual stipends.

"Oh no, no," Commissioner President Linda Snyder said when asked if the board was looking at increasing the pay of incoming board members in 2014.

Township officials indicated the issue of salaries for commissioners may remain mute since the salary is believed to be at the maximum allowable. In any event, should pay adjustments be made for elected officials, increases apply only when an individual is elected to office and begins his or her term. The raise would not apply to those serving midterm.

The Lehigh County Board of Elections would have to be notified of any change in the pay structure for any elected township office.

Presently, the commissioners are each paid a $4,125 annual stipend. The commissioners do not receive any other compensation or benefits, such as health insurance and pensions.

"We never considered it," Snyder said regarding the idea of raising commissioners pay.

The commissioners hold two meetings monthly, a workshop and the general meeting at which time votes are taken. The part-time commissioners attend committee meetings and hold a series of budget deliberations.

The office of mayor is not on the ballot this year. The position pays $83,628.
