Shirley M. Whitby, 77, of Orefield, died Jan. 9, 2013, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. She was the wife of the late Duaine Whitby.

Born in Hecktown, she was a daughter of the late William and Elsie (Dornblaser) Filchner.

She was a graduate of the Allentown Nursing School.

She worked for many years as a OB-GYN nurse at the former Allentown General Hospital until she retired.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan and her husband John Shumack; a son, Duaine Whitby II; a sister, Nancy and her husband Rich Johnson; a brother, David and his wife Jan Filchner; three grandchildren, Amanda, Jessica, and Tara; and a great-grandson, Kieran.

She was predeceased by a son, James; and two daughters, Genevieve and Catherine.

Arrangements were made by Brubaker Funeral Home Inc., Catasauqua.
