John J. Voortman Jr., 82, of Center Valley, died Jan. 14, 2013, at Lehigh Valley Hospital Center, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Mildred M. (Handwerk) Voortman for 31 years.

Born in Upper Saucon Township, he was a son of the late John and Gertrude (Snyder) Voortman.

He worked for Mack Trucks, Allentown, for 31 years until he retired in 1986. He had a lifelong love of farming.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two stepsons, Kerry Strohl of Lehigh Township and Barry Strohl of Travelers Rest, S.C.; a son, James Voortman of Bethlehem; four sisters, Verna Fair, Mildred Crush, Pearl Beck and Dorothy Smith; two brothers, Norman and Richard Voortman; several grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
